About SJSERA
The Saint John Southworth Enterprise and Research Alliance is a teacher training provider based in central London with a thriving network of Primary and Secondary schools around the capital. Since our inception, we have grown rapidly and now work with a wide range of schools and other educational institutions nationwide supporting each other in a variety of ways.
What we offer:
- One year teacher training courses to obtain Primary or Secondary Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with PGCE (optional)
- National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) for qualified teachers
- Paid3-week Summer Internship Programme for undergraduates to gain an insight into the teaching profession
- Online Get into Teaching Experience Sessions and in person events to gain an understanding of what you need to become a teacher
We are currently looking for a wide range of enthusiastic, bright candidates who are excited about the prospect of training to teach! With places in over 22 subjects available, the SJSERA prides itself on providing an environment in which new teachers can flourish, grow, and excel. With dedicated mentors on hand, the courses we offer give you the chance to really get stuck into your first year of training.

Nicholas KehoeHead of the SJSERA
Nicholas Kehoe
Nicholas has previously been:
- Deputy Head (Curriculum) at a secondary level
- SEND Director
- Executive Head of a Primary School
- A Local Authority Advisor for Vocational Education
- A former Vice Chair and Trustee of a National Charity working with Young People.
His experience over the last thirty years has been in developing a range of curriculum solutions for schools. In recent years he has worked with other colleagues, the DfE, and Formatio (SE Hub) in developing bespoke training programmes to meet the individual needs of schools. His aim is always to ensure that the pupils and staff are provided with the best opportunities and experience possible.

Dr Patrick LaniganDeputy Head of the SJSERA
Dr Patrick Lanigan
Patrick Lanigan is the Assistant Headteacher at The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School with responsibilities for curriculum, IT infrastructure and the Deputy Head of the Upper School. As the Deputy Headteacher for SJSERA he is the Research Lead, a Subject Matter Expert for Computer Science and the editor of the SJS T&L Digest. In 2018-2019 Patrick was the Assistant Head at St Ignatius College, Enfield with responsibility for Teaching and Learning. Patrick has an MA and MPhil in Education and recently completed a Doctorate focusing on improving engagement, the knowledge from which he utilises within his role providing training and support to partner schools and within the academy. As a Founding Fellow of the Chartered College of Teachers he is an advocate of evidence-based practice and enhancing the professional status of teachers.

Shelagh O'ConnellSenior Leader & Teaching Expert
Shelagh O'Connell
Shelagh is an Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning at CVMS, where she has worked for 28 years, 16 of which she spent as Head of English. She is the school's lead trainer, and has trained upwards of 30 teachers and mentored 20 plus ECTs.
