SJSCAT Recollection at Tyburn Convent
Published Friday 4 July 2025

Thank you to the parents who joined us on Monday for the SJSCAT Recollection. It was truly a joy to gather in the name of Jesus, united in faith, peace, and fellowship.
It was very moving to reflect on the rich history of the Catholic faith in the UK and on the powerful witness of the Holy Martyrs of England and Wales, especially Saint John Southworth, the patron saint of the Trust who was martyred at Tyburn on 28 June 1654. He is one of over 100 martyrs including priests, religious, and lay faithful who gave their lives for their faith.
Tyburn Convent, near the site of the executions, remains a sacred place of prayer and remembrance. The shrine there, housing relics of the martyrs, invites us to recall their sacrifice and to live our own faith with courage and love.
Thank you to Lauren from Hidden Catholic for providing a tour of the Convent and telling us all about the history of Mother Marie Adele Garnier, Tyburn’s foundress, an apostle of the Sacred Heart. This visit held extra significance as it coincided with our celebration of the Feast of Saint John Southworth and the Sacred Heart.
Extra special thanks to Caroline Moulinet, SJSCAT Lay Chaplain for organising this incredibly meaningful morning.
