British Values Statement
At the Saint John Southworth Catholic Academy Trust, we are committed to promoting the fundamental British values of:
- Democracy
- The Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
These values are taught and lived out within the context of our Catholic faith, which recognises the dignity of every person as made in the image and likeness of God. Our school community is united by its faith in Jesus Christ, whose values we both teach and live by; we are called to love our neighbour, seek the common good, and build a just and compassionate society. We encourage everyone to share, grow and flourish in faith and love.
By pursuing a framework of Catholic values across all our Trust schools, British values are embedded through:
- A rich and inclusive curriculum that encourages debate, critical thinking, and active citizenship
- A focus on personal responsibility, service to others, and understanding the impact of our actions
- Clear behaviour expectations and a strong sense of right and wrong, underpinned by Gospel values
- A culture of welcome, respect, and dialogue where all pupils are valued, regardless of background or belief
- Opportunities for pupil voice, leadership, and participation in decision-making through school councils and other forums
We work to prepare a community of pupils by delivering Catholic education focused on formation and achievement, which nurtures both faith and citizenship. In this way we help our children and young people to grow into responsible, respectful, and active members of society who are equipped to contribute to the common good and make a positive contribution to the wider community in modern Britain.
